Bible Passage: Judges 13:2-7 & Exodus 2:9-10
Preamble:
It is with great joy that I welcome and felicitate with all children and parents for witnessing this year’s Children Day service.
Although the children’s day is celebrated on 27th May of every year, we delight in having such special service as this to celebrate our children,
connect them with their source and stimulate their hearts towards a great future, which is their destiny.
Our focus this year is on being heroes. (Hero and heroine). I request all children watching and listening to me to rise and shout this loud:
I am special. I am a hero/heroine. I will manifest my greatness in life {Put your hands together for yourselves}
I use this time to declare concerning anyone trusting God for the fruit of the womb, receive yours in Jesus name
The focus of today’s message is to encourage greatness or heroism in our children and especially to challenge parents,
caregivers and all stakeholders to work hard and pay the dues of raising heroic children
The title of today’s message is THE TRADEMARK OF HEROIC PARENTS AND CHILDREN
Introduction
A distinguished professor in the field of agriculture was put on a spot to answer a challenging question after an inaugural lecture.
The professor responded in a most educating manner.
The quest reads thus: “What are the four (4) most important things that matter for maximum and successful cash crop planting”
The professor said: there are 5 S that can summarize the answer; they are Seed, Soil, Sower and Surrounding
So, the SEED are the children entrusted/planted across board and generations
The soil – is where the life, dwell and thrive
Sower- parents, caregivers and all stakeholders
Surrounding – A conducive surrounding is a necessity to raise heroes
It is interesting to note how the response of this professor can help us as parents, children caregivers and all stakeholders
work in line with the declarations of the Bible to raise heroes in our children.
The Bible says “Children are the heritage of the Lord; they are arrows (Psalm 127: 3-5)”
The Bible also says they are the planting of the Lord; indeed, they are olive {valuable tress} (Psalm 128:3).
If we know this well, then we will handle them well for the Lord because oftentimes they are the solutions to the generational needs prepared and sent forth by the Lord afore time.
The matter is that in God’s plan every child needs to be handled well to turn out to be heroes/heroines.
Time will fail us to name some of the people in the Bible raised well as children and served a divine purpose in their generation.
Examples that readily come to mind are Joseph, Samuel, Samson, Deborah, Esther, etc.
The noticeable matter about all these mentioned is that they did not just turn out to be heroes/heroines.
Some people (parents, teachers, care givers} worked on them
Don’t forget the title of this message: THE TRADEMARK OF HEROIC PARENTS AND CHILDREN
It will interest you to know that a trademark is a name, a mark that shows the uniqueness of a product made by a company
Looking into the Bible, I found a common trademark over generations on parents and caregivers who raised heroes/heroines. Please not that they were not angel, they were not super humans; not rich, not highly placed in society, but there are certain traits we could glean from their lives.
Let us examine some heroes and the behind the curtain stakeholders in their lives
(a) In the passage we read, we saw hero MOSES, whose parents played a great role. The parents were Amram and Jochebed {Exodus 2:1-10}
What was the trademark sellable to our generation in their lives?
They were determined, Sacrificial; they contended with situations that killed other children of their time and gave their child the right identity
(b) We also, read of Hero Samson who was a great deliverer by a divine endowment in his generation
His parents were MR AND MRS MANOAH (Judges (13:1-12)
The trademarks in their lives were Prayer, monitoring, parental counsel, and receiving divine instruction. They knew God’s mind for their children
Jesus Christ, Our Salvation and Eternal Hero
The parents were Joseph and Mary (Matthew 1:18-25)
The trademarks in their lives are settled home for raising children, ran away from danger to secure Jesus destiny and waited through till the end despite challenges
They did not allow generational hazard to kill their child
(d)Joseph, the dreamer (Genesis 37:1-12)
The parents were Jacob and Rachael
Trademark in their lives was sound home training that can sustain through hardships
(e) Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego as combined heroes
Their parents were not really mentioned
The trademark was faith that never gives up implanted even in the face of the furnace
In conclusion, God wants all stakeholders to work at raising heroes. This does not exempt our government. Let us put an enabling environment for our children and not mortgage their destiny. This has to do with educational and moral standards in our society
As children and parents, what definition of heroes do I request you work hard at raising?
I will summarize it thus:
H- Help your generation to solve the problems around
E- Examples of exploits
R- Redeemer of desolations of the past and present
O- Ordained children by divine prerogative
As we celebrate this year children day, remember, God is looking for THE TRADEMARK OF HEROIC PARENTS AND CHILDREN
Let us pray………
