COVENANT OF NEW HEIGHT | Rev Dr S. O James

Text: 2 Samuel 22:17-39

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to a New Decade, A New Year and New Season. As a Church, God is taken us to New Heights. The New height is about divine lifting; it is about divine elevation and promotion. It is about taking you out of the pit, moving men from valley to plain land, from the plain to the hill and from the hill to the mountain top.

I don’t know where you are now, I don’t know where your family is now, I don’t know where you family presently dwell, BUT one thing is sure God is taking you to New Heights this year. This is a height beyond your dream, a height that no man in your family and profession has ever experience.  The New Heights God talked about is multi-dimensional. It is a New Height in every facet of your life.

1. COVENANT OF PRAISE AND TESTIMONY –vs. 7-8

“In my distress, I called upon the LORD, and cried to my God: He did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears. Then the earth shook and trembled; ….”

NOTE: Covenant for those dwelling in the pit (of life)

DECLARATION: It is a season of an end to your distress (your sorrow). This year God will change your situation; he will lift you out of crisis, out of sorrow and out of the troubles and water of life.

• 17 “He sent from above, he took me; he drew me out of many waters”
• God will lift you from the pit, from the mud and from the water of life
• Psalm 40:2 – He will bring you me out of the slimy pit and the miry clay and put your feet on the rock to stand.

Are you in a mess, is your life in a mess, is your family, business or health in a mess, TODAY …… there will be turn around miracle today.

• Vs 29: The LORD will turn your darkness to light

NOTE: The example of Jephtha: He moved from the child of a prostitute to a homeless boy to a gang leader and a Judge in Israel (Judges 11:1-10)

1. COVENANT OF BREAKTHROUGH AND ADVANCEMENT – vs. 18, 30

Vs 18 “…. He rescued me from my powerful enemy … who were too strong for me”

NOTE: who were too strong for me”

• This is covenant of unconquerable strength, unstoppable progress, and victory in the battle of life

Vs. 30- “With your help, I can advance against a troop; with my God, I can scale a wall.”

1. Advance against a troop

• Vs 35: For this to happen God will train (teach) your hands for battle (Psalm 144:1).

1. I can scale a wall

• This is about breaking the barrier and soaring high against all odds. (This requires God’s help-Isaiah 50:7).

DECLARATION: This year with God’s help you will breakthrough; this year you are unstoppable.

NOTE: This is God’s Covenant for those in the valley of life. God will lift you to higher ground and bring you forth into a large space (spacious place)- vs. 20

NOTE: Moses and Joshua and the Amalekites – Exodus 17:8-13

 

NOTE: This will come through God’s help and Training

• David was a great example here: He moved from a shepherd boy to an aide to the king, to a captain of the army, to a king over Judah and then a king over Israel.
• The lion could not stop him, his brothers could not stop him, Goliath could not stop him, and the traps of Saul could not stop him and even his death sentence could not stop him.
• COVENANT OF PROMOTION AND GREATNESS –vs. 34, 36

1. 34 He enables me to stand on the heights

In doing this David declares “it is God who arms me with strength and make my way perfect” – vs. 33

• The Lord will strengthen and make your way perfect. With his strength, you can climb on height ( Note Isaiah 40:28-31)
• Strengthening requires waiting upon the LORD

1. 36b- “… you stoop down to make my great”

NOTE: The example of Daniel and Joseph who were promoted and became great in a strange land.

• Daniel move from an ordinary citizen (from the royal family) to becoming one of the leaders (a chief), to becoming the first of the three presidents set over Babylon’s 120 provinces
• Joseph moved from the “pit” to become a manager (in Potiphar’s house), and from prison to palace to become the Prime Minister of Egypt. The position never existed before or after him. It was created because of him and for him.

PROPHETIC DECLARATION: Your journey to the top will never cease; God will take you out of the pit; he will move you from the valley to the hill and from the hill to the top of the mountain. He will move you higher and higher and higher all the days of your life.

1. COVENANT OF NEW HEIGHT THROUGH RIGHTEOUSNESS – 21-27

• New height is a covenant relationship
• 22, 23, 24. David declared: For I have kept the way of the LORD …., I have been blameless before him and have kept myself from sin”
• Vs 21, 25: “The LORD dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hand he has rewarded me”
